How agencies can share deliverables securely

Agencies leak through process, not cryptography No agency has ever lost a campaign to a broken cipher. They lose material to a freelancer still in a shared folder, a review link posted in a group chat, a master uploaded to a personal cloud account because the deadline was that evening, and a departing account manager whose laptop still syncs.

Every one of those is a process problem with a technical fix.

Step 1 — One encrypted space per client Agencies frequently serve competitors at the same time. Separation should be cryptographic: each client space has its own key, and membership is explicit. A permission mistake then cannot expose one client's material to another's team.

Step 2 — Scope freelancers to a single engagement Invite contractors into one space only. When the engagement ends, remove them: access is revoked, remaining keys rotate, and the change is recorded. Compare that with the usual approach — a shared folder nobody audits, and a contractor who still has it in eighteen months.

Step 3 — Watermark review rounds Send proofs as watermarked, view-only material with a per-viewer mark. It does not prevent a screenshot; it makes a screenshot attributable, which changes behaviour in a room of twelve stakeholders.

Step 4 — One link per stakeholder Group links destroy attribution and make revocation blunt. Individual links tell you who opened what and let you cut off exactly one person. Combine with a passphrase sent on a different channel and a short expiry — public links here last 24 hours at most.

Step 5 — Make the big hand-off reliable The single most common cause of shadow uploads is a transfer tool that fails on large files. Chunked, resumable uploads with post-upload verification mean the 60 GB delivery finishes even over a bad connection, so nobody reaches for a personal account.

Step 6 — Deliver from an archive, not from a re-upload When the final master lives in an encrypted drive, re-delivery next quarter is a new link, not a new upload. Version history covers the "which cut did we send them?" question.

Step 7 — Close the project properly Revoke live links, remove client-side and freelance participants so keys rotate, export the access trail for the file, and archive the space. A closed project should have no live access paths.

What this is worth commercially Larger clients now audit their suppliers. An agency that can describe per-client cryptographic separation, watermarked review, per-recipient links with enforced expiry and contractor offboarding that rotates keys is answering questions its competitors cannot.
